Kira Koch

11 years, violin

Kira Elisabeth Koch, born 2010 in Berlin, comes from a family with German, Romanian, Hungarian and Japanese roots. She started playing the violin at the age of 5. She received her first violin lessons from Michiko Iiyoshi, and since 2017 she has been taught by Michiko Feuerlein and receives talent development from the Musikwerkstatt Eden in Oranienburg. Even before her 6th birthday, she won the 1st prize with full points at the "Jugend musiziert" competition. In 2019 and 2020 further first prizes followed at the competition "Jugend musiziert" as a soloist and in the rating for string duo. In 2020 and 2021, she won a first prize and a sponsorship prize at the nationwide Carl Schröder Competition in Sondershausen, respectively. At the international competition "Young Ludwig" she won the second prize and at this year's International Kocian Competition she won the 3rd prize. She made her orchestral debut as a soloist at the age of 7 with the orchestra "Concerto" of the Musikwerkstatt Eden. Since August 2020, Kira has been a student at the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Music High School and plays in the Children's Orchestra of the Berlin State Opera.

Five questions for the artists

What does the instrument have that you play that the others don't? What do you especially love about him? What annoys you about him? I think the violin is the most versatile instrument. You can express an infinite amount with it. What I love about her is that you can come up with such beautiful characters. It annoys me when it squeaks ... The music of which composer do you never want to miss in your life? Wieniawski and Mozart. What are you reluctant to do? To clean up. Do you do sports? Which? Yes, but not in the sports club. I love to do gymnastics and I like to do athletics. What makes you angry? When someone is knowledgeable.
